Officially Summer!

We had our first real sleepover.  Lucy from school spent Saturday night with us before we met up with her parents before church.  It was so much fun for the girls, late night (10:30pm) and early morning (6am) but the afternoon to sleep  Gracie rarely takes a nap, but she knew she needed it!

Maggie!  

Yes, school is over!   Gracie did so well and we are so proud of her.  Maggie feels the change too as she will move in just a week or so to her new classroom (and final classroom at her school before se moves to CCS for Kindergarten).   While Maggie will be in the preK classroom longer than I would like, she will be with teachers I adore and her friends. She will have plenty of stimulation and at this age it is not all about academics!    We will move her the summer before she starts “big school” to summer camp with Gracie.

The girls wrapped up the week with Jimmy at Lake Winnie (a local amusement park).    Friday Maggie’s entire school went so they enjoyed the day together before we headed to Atlanta for the long weekend.   We enjoyed a wonderful family cookout with the Martins.   The girls always look forward to cousin time and of course seeing their grandparents too.  They were staking claim to where they were going to sleep on our way down.  Maggie wanted to sleep in Papa’s room and Gracie wanted Grammy to sleep with her.   We of course love seeing family and also enjoy the morning or two when Grammy enjoys the early mornings with our girls and we get to sleep in a bit.  Jimmy and I even got a run in together (yes, we are trying to run but I am not sure I like the running part but I do like doing it together).

1st Grade recap: 

First day of 1st Grade! 

Last day of 1st Grade! 

--Gracie and Kenzie started the year with high expectations that they could sit together as long as they did not talk.   As Mommies always do, we reminded them and checked in the first several months, however they have proven they can do it and ended the year still sitting next to each other.  We are praying they will be in the same 2nd grade class!  

--Gracie started the year and ended the year with terrible bug bites.  I continue to pray for a solution as she reacts terribly and typically get them on her ankles.   They swell significantly and are difficult for her. --This was our first year of homework and we all adjusted quite well to it.  

--Spelling and math are Gracie’s favorite subjects and the ones she excels in. 

--Reading / sight words started off rough but Gracie ended the year with a greater interest in reading and more advanced than I expected.  

--Mrs. Barrow has been a wonderful blessing not only to Gracie but to us!  This was her last year at CCS as she is retiring.  It is sad that Maggie will not have the opportunity to be taught by her, but we are so thankful Gracie was under her care and direction.  God is so awesome in how he pairs our girls with the teachers and connections they need to blossom into young ladies.   

--Aftercare has proven to be a wonderful again this year as they helped her with school work and provided an environment for her to relax the days she needed a little down time, a space to run when she had a little extra energy to get out, new friends to grow with, and workers to listen to her stories and care for her while she was with them.
